My recent graphic design practice has comprised of creating a brand identity for Kathryn O’Kell, an artist who creates wood reliefs of birds. To create a brand identity requires careful analysis of the client’s brief, understanding of principles in graphic design such as typography, composition or colour, creative aptitude and most of all – a passion for good design. Perceiving my client’s persona and the nature of her work I wanted to generate an idea that would integrate elements denoting aspects and qualities of her artistic identity such as: name recognition – in particular her monograms, fondness of birds, elegance and wood carving.
Assimilation of these elements has formed harmonious design outcomes that unquestionably reflect her professional practice and a passion for wood carving.
I focused on the originality of her work, basic forms, patterns and shapes in order to create the strongest possible outcome based on the initials of her name.
